Greige engineered oak herringbone in a London living room

Why herringbone, why now

Once reserved for stately halls, herringbone has become the defining floor of the 2020s renovation. The interlocking 90° pattern adds movement, makes rooms feel longer, and works equally well in Victorian conversions and high-spec new builds.

We carry 14mm engineered oak herringbone in 600×120mm and 700×140mm blocks — the two sizes that suit UK room dimensions best.

Popular herringbone tones

Natural Oak Herringbone

Warm, brushed and matt-lacquered. The classic — works in any room.

Greige Herringbone

Soft grey-beige tones, our most requested colour for new-build London flats.

Smoked Herringbone

Deep reactive-stained oak with espresso undertones — striking in period homes.

Whitewashed Herringbone

Pale, Scandinavian feel that opens up smaller rooms and basements.

Chevron (sister pattern)

45° cut for a sharper V — slightly more material but unmatched in formal spaces.

Herringbone FAQs

How much does herringbone flooring cost fitted?
Most of our herringbone projects land between £85 and £140/m² supplied and fitted, including subfloor prep, glue, scotia and a final clean. Engineered greige and smoked oak tend to sit at the top end.
Can herringbone go over underfloor heating?
Yes — but only engineered herringbone (not solid). We glue down to a screed with thermal-stable adhesive and check max surface temp stays below 27°C.
Click herringbone vs glue-down — which is better?
Glue-down looks better and lasts longer for real engineered oak. Click herringbone (LVT/SPC) is faster and waterproof, perfect for kitchens and rentals.
How long to fit a herringbone floor?
An average 25m² living room takes 2–3 days including subfloor prep, latex screed and beading.
