Walnut FAQs
- Is walnut harder or softer than oak?
- Walnut is slightly softer than European oak (1010 vs 1360 Janka), so we recommend a 4mm wear-layer engineered walnut for family homes rather than solid.
- Does walnut fade in sunlight?
- Yes — walnut lightens noticeably in direct sun over 2–3 years. We apply UV-stable hardwax oil and recommend rotating rugs in the first year.
- American walnut vs European walnut?
- American (black) walnut is darker with chocolate-purple tones. European walnut is lighter with warm honey-brown streaks. Most of our clients choose American for the drama.
