Where DIY works
A simple rectangular bedroom, a floating floor, a sound and flat subfloor, and no underfloor heating. Click systems are designed to be assembled without specialist tools, and if the room has four straight walls and one doorway, there's not much to go wrong.
The four things that go wrong
Almost every remedial job we attend comes down to the same short list, and none of them are visible on the day the floor is finished.
- No moisture test: a damp screed destroys a floor from underneath, months later
- No expansion gap: the floor peaks in the middle or lifts at the skirting
- Subfloor not levelled: dips telegraph through LVT within months
- Wrong adhesive or underlay for the build-up, especially over heating
What professional fitting includes that DIY doesn't
A survey with moisture readings and a flatness check, latex screeding or a DPM where the readings demand it, acclimatisation, machine-cut scribes at thresholds and pipe boxings, and a walkthrough with an aftercare pack. Our own certified team does the work — we don't subcontract the fit.
Where the money actually goes
The board is only part of the price. Waste from bad setting-out, a second adhesive purchase, hired tools and replacement planks close the gap between DIY and a fitted price faster than most people expect — particularly on patterned floors, which we'd never suggest fitting yourself.
