COST GUIDE

Herringbone flooring cost, supplied and fitted

Herringbone and parquet start at £89/m² supplied and fitted — our highest rate, and for good reasons that are worth understanding before you compare quotes.

Herringbone parquet floor being set out from the centre line

Why pattern costs more than plank

A plank floor is laid in runs. A herringbone floor is set out from a centre line, dry-laid to confirm the pattern lands correctly at every wall, and then bonded block by block. More blocks per square metre, more cuts, more time — and no margin for drift once the adhesive grabs.

Borders, waste and blocks

Perimeter borders and mitred corners are quoted separately because they're a distinct piece of work. Chevron adds cost over herringbone through handed, angle-machined blocks and higher offcut waste.

  • Full glue-down onto a prepared, level base — never floated
  • Dry-lay and setting-out agreed with you before bonding
  • Borders, mitres and thresholds quoted as their own lines

Subfloor preparation

Parquet is unforgiving of an uneven base and the pattern makes any deflection obvious. Levelling and moisture control are almost always part of a parquet quote, and over underfloor heating the build-up is designed for conduction rather than insulation.

Timeline

3–5 weeks lead time, and the longest on-site programme of anything we fit. If a room has to be ready for a date, tell us at survey and we'll work back from it.

Frequently asked

Is herringbone LVT cheaper than wood parquet?
The material is, yes, and it's a genuine option for kitchens and rentals. The setting-out labour is broadly the same — the pattern is the work.
Can parquet go over underfloor heating?
In engineered form, bonded down, yes. Solid blocks over a wet system are not something we specify.
Do I need a border?
No. A border suits period rooms; in modern spaces we often scribe the pattern straight to the perimeter instead.
Can you repair an existing parquet floor instead?
Often. Re-bonding lifted blocks and sanding is a large part of our restoration work, and it starts at a much lower rate than new parquet.

In short

From £89/m² supplied and fitted, with borders, subfloor levelling and threshold detailing itemised separately. The rate reflects setting-out and block-by-block bonding, not just the material.
